Prayer Walking

Prayer walking, in essence, is no more than the conscious combination of our two most natural human abilities: walking and talking.

Benefits Of Prayer Walking

  • The church moves into the community.
  • Increasing our awareness of community needs.
  • The church invades the enemy's territory.
  • Divine appointments to meet people.
  • Casting seeds of the gospel and praying for a harvest.
  • Permeating our community with righteousness and the Kingdom of God.

Purposes For Prayer Walking

God Has Called Us To Pray - Community transformation can only happen through consistent, intentional, fervent and persevering prayer. 1 Timothy 2:1 “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for everyone - v2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”

To Purify Our Hearts & For Confession Of Sin - We must search our hearts and confess all sin before we can pray effectively. Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

To Promote Unity In The Church - Jesus Christ is lifted up when the believers from different churches pray together. Unity among the local churches is a powerful witness to the community. John 17:23 “May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me.”

To Stand In The Gap - God is looking for believers who will stand in the gap in prayer for their community. Ezekiel 22:30 “I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.”

To Intercede On Behalf Of Others In Their Spiritual Battles - To recognize, that ultimately, the battles we face in this life are in the spiritual realm.  Ephesians 6:12 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Reveals Our Need For The Armor of God - To be reminded of the importance of putting on our spiritual armor daily. Ephesians 6:13 “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”

To Rescue Those In Darkness - God has called us to pray for the lost that they might find the truth and be set free. Isaiah 61:1 “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners...”.

What To Pray While Prayer Walking (4 Steps To Advance The Kingdom Of God)

Speak Peace And Blessing - We pray that each neighbor will begin to seek Jesus Christ. We pray that God would open the eyes of the lost in this neighborhood. We pray that the lost would no longer be deceived by the enemy. We pray that they would be able to see the truth of who Jesus is and that the Truth (Jesus) would set them free.

Fellowship - We pray for divine appointments to meet people. We pray for the love of God to fill us, so others would be attracted to what we have. We pray for opportunities to connect with people of peace. We pray that God would give us boldness to minister to anyone that comes across our path. We pray for the right words to speak, through the power of the Holy Spirit. God, open doors that no man can shut for us to minister to people. God, give me opportunities to connect with my neighbors. God, give me opportunities to connect with people on the streets I have adopted in prayer.

Minister To Needs - We pray that God would bring physical, emotional and spiritual healing to all the families in this neighborhood. We pray that God would hear our prayers because we have (1) humbled ourselves, (2) prayed, (3) sought God’s face, (4) and turned from our sin. We pray that God in response will hear from heaven, will forgive our sin and will heal our land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Proclaim - We pray for opportunities to proclaim that the kingdom of God is near. Prayer samples: We pray that each neighbor living here will come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior. We pray that God would meet each of their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. We pray that God would bless each home. God, give each prayer walker discernment to know how to pray for each home. We pray that God would raise up intercessors in this neighborhood. We pray for renewal and revival among all the churches in this community for the sake of the gospel. We pray for a spiritual awakening in this neighborhood for those who do not know Jesus Christ.

Advance The Kingdom Of Light

Consider bringing a pen and paper with you. If God brings any particular thoughts to your mind, you can then write them down. If you have the chance to talk to anyone, you can write down their name and address, to remind you to pray for them in the future.
